hi and thanks in advance for any help. the problem i have is that my brothers laptop has 2 copies of windows installed on his laptop. one on C drive and one installed on D drive. when windows starts up it gives us the option of which one to boot up. when windows starts up it then gives us the message that C drive is full and we need to delete files to solve this problem. i think this has been caused by him putting a copy of windows in there. the copies are windows vista basic 32 bit.

now what i want to know is how can i remove this version of windows from the C drive so that it will just boot from the original version leaving c drive empty ?

This could get tricky.

In one sense all you need to is edit the BCD store to remove the option to boot to the installation that you want to remove and then format that partition to wipe it.

BUT I'm guessing that the C partition was the original and if it was then I'm also guessing that the MBR & BCD are on that partition. If I'm right, then formatting C would stop the laptop booting D.

Read the following MS article. It is talking about mukltiple boots with earlier Windows versions but it will give you an understanding of some of the concepts.

hi,
you need this tool:
http://en.kioskea.net/telecharger/telechar...-vista-boot-pro
the tool from Microsoft is too difficult to use(bcdedit.exe)
keep above handy on a memory stick to repair boot problem with Vita.
you need to install it on Vista and work with it from there .

Regards ben
