I am looking for a replacement of my existing firmware CD which has been "eaten" by my dog.

So far, on the Thomson site, I have found xDSLGA-VoIP_Firmware_UK_gen_ST780WL_en_6-2-T-3

This is a zip file which I unzipped and opened and the resulting file is a bin file which, no doubt, has the info I need, but I don'y know how to convert this file, now on a CD, to one that I can use to re-install my router

Or, alternatively, does anyone know how I can purchase a CD for my router

Are you implying that your router is completely dead? You don't need a CD to set up a router, you just log into its admin pages & set up your settings. All the CDs that they issue with them do. is lead you by the nose through this process. But it is easy to do manually. Personally I always bin them.

The firmware should exist on a ROM chip in the router. The bin file that you've downloaded will be in case you want to update this. In which case, you log into the admin screens and there should be a utility to update the firmware which you can point at the bin file.

If the router IS competely dead then you won't have a way of updating the firmware and it is time for a replacement.

I have unfortunately destroyed my firmware CD for my 780WL ADSL router.

I have been trying to get a replacement CD from either Thomson or Speedtouch and have failed

So far all I have is a bin file which apparently contains the information required to make one's own CD but I have no idea how to convert this bin file to use in a proper CD

Need advice (other than buying another router!) please

I had to effect a reset on the router and the USB link is inactive and the driver needs the CD from which to install it. This is the reason I am seeking a replacement CD-ROM
Why is it so difficult to do so?

My apologies. I hadn't considered that you were trying to connect to the router via USB. It always seems an unnatural perversion to me................. biggrin.gif

Anyway, I too have googled and I can't find the USB driver anyware. The firmware but not the driver. rolleyes.gif

However if all you've done is reset the router, then the USB driver should still be on your computer. If the installation wizard isn't finding it automatically then you will need to take the option to manually point it at the location. Hopefully there will be a folder called Thomson or Speedtouch or 780wl or whatever where it is. You might need to hunt around. But if you haven't uninstalled it, the driver is definitely still on your PC somewhere.

If you can't find it or did uninstall it, then you are up the creek I'm afraid.

P.S. I've merged the second thread that you started.
