Full Version: no sound device

Flame.gif I accidentally deleted my sound device ( soundmax) I have searched the net for a replacement , but all I can find are drivers, when I try to dowload one of these I get a message from installer wizard telling me there is no sound device present . Help what can I do unsure.gif

Have you tried a system restore, to a known working date.

Which make/model of PC are we talking about? Which version of Windows?

Are you sure that you haven't disabled the soundcard? How does it show in Device Manager?

Hi Grasshopper, thanks for responding. I looked in Device Manager it has a yellow questionmark over it , thats all I can tell you . I'm no geek as you have probably guessed.
The computer is custom built , with windows xp,and asus motherboard.

Hi Grasshopper. there is a mention of code 28, but trhe word "error " isn't mentioned.

Error code 28 means that the device driver is not installed.

So it should be as simple as getting the correct driver frojm the Asus website. To do that I need to know the model number of the Asus motherboard. If you don't know it, open the case and look inside. It will be witten on the board itself in white writing. It will look something like M2N68-AM for example. But Asus make hundreds of motherboards and we need to get the correct one.
