hi all and thanks for any help you may be able to offer me.
my brother brought his laptop to see if i could get it going again. basically when i turn it on, i get the black screen saying windows was unexpectadly closed and the usual options of:
1. start windows normally
2. repair windows
but no option to boot in safe mode.
when i choose either options it looks like windows is loading but then get a blue screen with the following message.:
a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.(it also says something about my disc drives being full and maybe causing the problem but this is not the case.)if you need to use safe mode, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup and then select safe mode. the following codes are also given:
STOP:0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x8471D0AE, 0x8514FBA0, 0x8514F89C)
volsnap.sys - address 8471D0AE base at 84718000, datestamp 47918f92
after trying F8 on several occasions there is no option for safe mode and this infact only brings up the boot sequence. i have tried all the different F keys to get into the advanced startup options to use safe mode but none of them appear to do it.
im at a loss with this so if anyone can help me with this id be extremely thankful. oh and the laptop is a packard bell easynote mh35

ok i managed to find the safe mode option. you have to wait for the initial pink screen to turn black then press F8. anyway, i have done this and after selecting safe mode it starts as normal loading the required files but then goes straight to the blue screen again. i have also tried to use the recovery discs to reinstall windows but exactly the same happens whereas i get the blu screen with the same error message and codes which i mentioned in the previous post.
any help is greatly appreciated.regards david

hi ben and thanks for your reply. i have tried F11 but again that brings the blue screen. i have the link you provided for the recovery option but i have the recovery discs here but when i try to use them again it goes straight to the blue screen. safe mode again goes to the blue screen. every option i use does the same. dont know if it helps at all but apparently the last thing which was done was playing a game on facebook. restarted the laptop and this happens.
