Hi

I was wondering if anyone could help because I'm now stuck. I've been trying to install Win XP onto a new SATA hard drive I've just bought for my Advent 7208. I couldn't install because windows couldn't find a hard drive. After extensive searching forums I downloaded the Intel SATA driver 82801GBM and embedded it into my Windows install disc using nLite. According to all the forums this is supposed to work but Windows still won't recognise my hard drive! Has anyone got a suggestion???

Thanks
keebrain
Is the new hard drive ok?
Check in BIOS that it is detected. I would also visit the hard drive manufacturer's website and download & use any diagnostic utilities available there.

It seems ok, the BIOS detects it under the SATA section, and of course it says no IDE master. I've even tried buying a usb floppy to do the f6 driver install, and I've checked dozens of websites to find the right driver and they all say this is the one. Yet windows still can't detect it!

hello,
xp SP3 should be able to recognize it
http://www.howtohaven.com/system/slipstrea...ce-pack-3.shtml
see if the new installation disk helps.
also seagate got utility called seagate tools or maxtor Maxblast5
which clon the disk to disk .
assuming the old HDD still working and bootable.
you need a 3rd computer to connect the other 2 drives
or boot from thier rescue Cd .
true imge Acronise 11 can do that and more.
but it is not free .

Hi
There are one or two wrinkles to watch out for when using the USB floppy.
The first is set the floppy drive as first in the boot order. The second is putting the SATA drivers on the floppy disk correctly. Make sure they are in the root of the floppy drive not in a folder. Unpack the f6flpy3289.zip (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=17883&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows%20XP%20Professional*&lang=eng) and you should see the following files
iaahci.cat
iaAHCI.inf
iastor.cat
iaStor.inf
IaStor.sys
license.txt
TXTSETUP.OEM
Copy them all to floppy and follow the instruction after pressing F6
