When I use the function buttons on my Advent notebook I used to get icons to show me e.g. changing brightness etc. Now they've disappeared ... how do I get them back?

Are you using AVG Free antivirus?
There was a problem with it recognising the on screen display exe (osd) file as a virus and deleting it. Result no osd functions.
You could either change to another free antivirus like Avira or put the osd.exe file in the AVG Resident Shield exception list
