Hello Everyone,
I am a relative newcomer to computers, and I recently bought a refurbished acer aspire 1201. I have a number of simulator games, which work fine on my friends dell laptop, but will not even load on this computer. When I insert the disc, I am asked if I want to load the game, I say yes, the computer says loading, but nothing happens! It will play film on dvd ok, but it will just not run any game.
I have windows vista, the hard drive is 320 gigabytes, and there are 2 gigabytes of memory. the graphics are ati radeon. I have kaspersky 2009 anti virus installed, and pc tools firewall. I would be grateful if someone who knows, could advise me how to overcome this problem. regards, salty.

Certainly strange that so many games have problems installing.

Do you have any error messages when trying to install?

Do you have any problems installing other programs?

Hello Mart, sorry for the late reply to your question, but I had no access to a computer, I am using a borrowed one. I had no problem installing other programs, but then the computer began acting strangely, switching itself on and off, when I try system restore, it switches itself off, the desktop icons no longer relate to the correct programs. I installed spybot and it found 12 trojans called partner BHO. I cannot remove them, as it says I have to be the administrator to do so, which I am! all the details of them are displayed by spybot. Kaspersky did not find them, and a copy of trojan remover I borrowed, did not either. I am supposing that these trojans are the reason I cannot load any games. I bought the refurbished computer very recently from a well known high street retailer, and I am beginning to
think that the trojans were already on the computer, as it has been very slow to start and shut down I am fairly new to computers, but I am on a steep learning curve. Any advice you could give on how to remove the trojans, and get the system running again would be gratefully received. salty.

I doubt whether Partner BHO is the source of the problem. Have a read of this thread on Bleeping Computer:

As you will see, it gets installed with Google's Chrome Browser. Spybot is possibly a bit over zealous in classifying it as malware. Although it does collect info for advertising purposes. Which of course is how Google makes a profit. How you feel about that, dictates whether you worry about it.

But I doubt that it would cause the issues that you describe. The switching on & off sounds more like a hardware fault.
