Have a silly problem

Using XPpro/SP3/IE8

Frequently used programs are not being automatically added to the Start Menu

I have looked a various registry items to try to resolve and have failed and urgently need assistance please

One such item is HKey_Current_User\software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\explorer\FileAssociation

But I need to go further

Since you are looking at registry keys, I assume that you defintely have the options set correctly in the Start menu properties?

The following MS article points to most of the relevant keys I would have thought:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;292504

over and above that and the registry key that you mention, I'd look at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer

You could also try tweak no 31 on Kelly Korner which claims to undo all Start Menu changes. At your own discretion, I've not used it but others with your problem have claimed it worked.
