Hello. I have recently re installed XP professional onto my desktop and it appears I am now missing several drivers
In Device manager, other devices I have yellow question marks against
multimedia Audio controller
multimedia controller
PCI simple communications controller
USB controller
Video controller
Video controller (VGA compatible)
I've tried using windows update from the start button but all this does is take me to the google search page. Any ideas please?

Well you need to identify the hardware before you can search for the drivers.
Is your computer one of the popular models like an Advent or HP, if so it would be easier to look up the hardware specs of that particular model.
If not you will have to look inside the computer to try and id the hardware.
Just to add, looking at the drivers missing, "USB controller", if thats missing that would suggest that you have XP installed without any service packs.
Dowload
Service pack 3 and install it.

think I've got a major prob here. Nearly every time I go to a web page all or some of it (including the download Matt suggested) comes up with "this page cannot be displayed". Also noticed the @ and the " keys on the keyboard have been transposed

Re the keyboard problem, you need to set your keyboard settings to UK, the default is US:
Start > All Programs > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options. Go to the Languages tab, and click Details. Add English (United Kingdom) using the Add button on the right hand side of the dialogue. Click Apply. Select it as the Default input language using the drop-down menu at the top of the same dialogue. Click Apply.
How is your internet access set up?

Hi. Re installed XP again but only managed to download service pack 2 but have managed to get drivers for everything except:
Mutimedia Controller
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
I used Driver Detective to get the others but it fails downloading these two. Do I need them? All seems to be working ok.
thanks

Hopefully this link will work to take you to the correct PB page for the driver downloads:
http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/ind...0801&g=2000I see there is one for an AGP filter & USB patch which may cover your USB controller issue. Multimedia usually means the sound drivers in practice.

If you've installed all of the driivers from the PB site then that should cover everything on the original build. These missing items couldn't relate to hardware that you've added by any chance?
