Hi. PC, win XPHE, 400K ram, Soundblaster 16 bit. Cool Edit Pro. I'm finding that when I try to set an audio line level to peak at 0vu, the system prevents me and the max on normal peaks is about -3vu. Is there some sort of limiter or compression circuit involved?

Hi. Further to my last. I have made contact with a retired BBC sound recording engineer. His opinion is that setting the analogue input levels to peak at -6 vu is ok when doing digital recordings on a pc. It is something to do with the 'noise floor'?? being very much lower in digital recording systems.
