Hi,have you tried locating the current hard drive to see if it is properly connected?does the hard drive powerup/spin when you press the power button?have you taken out the hard drive to try on another computer? it could be that the hard drive is faulty rather than a problem with your laptop bios

Thanks for that yes i have checked the cable connection and the harddrive does seem to spin up but that is all.I have tested the harddrive on an external case on my main laptop and it works fine.

check your BIOS for a setting called Legacy Mode
if so set it and save and exit.

Hi
Thanks for your post Ben Mott.I have checked the Bios for legacy mode and the only legacy setting is for "legacy USB Support " which is already enabled but there are no legacy settings for the HDD.

The reason your harddrive isnt recognised is because the small ide cable that connects between the hard drive and motherboard has gone duff, thats why the hard drive appears perfectly well when in another laptop or hdd caddy. I am afraid you will only be able to fix this with another cable connector and believe me when i say they are harder than rocking horse poo to find. I know as i have been looking for 6 months
