Hi all, have a problem with a pc. I am doing a full system restore on a packard bell windows xp. I have done this before on this pc wich went wrong and would not finish the restore. So i had to contact packard bell and they sent me 4 disk which was the master recovered for my system, which then worked.

So tried using them again this time, which was all going fine on the 1st disk until it got to about 90% and then an error comes up saying:

'Command=>Q:\PARTS\WSA001AA.01\0FORMATX.COM<
Arg[1]=>Q:<
Arg[2]=>/A:B<
Arg[3]=>/Q<
Arg[4]=>/AUTOTEST<
Cannot format a network drive.

Command=>Q:\PARTS\WSA001AA.01\LABEL.EXE<
Arg[1]=>Q:<
Arg[2]=>HDD<
Cannot LABEL a network drive

- ERROR RUNNING A COMMAND LINE -
- >Q:\PARTS\WSA001AA.01\LABEL.EXE Q: HDD< -

* READING EXT HS
=> RETURN CODE = 1

- ERROR WHILE RUNNING GLUE PART : 1 -

Press any key to continue . . . '

I press a key and then it goes to the blue windows screen with an error box:

'Error 5

Glue parts error ...

OK'

I click ok:

Black screen again with:

'Exit from OEMSETUP.

D:\>_'

I have also put some new ram in a few months ago, should i of took this out of the pc before doing this full system restore? could this be the problem?

Thanks.

also when i put the red floppy disk in i get this:

Loading SMARTDRV...
SMARTDrive cannot be loaded because the xms driver, HIMEM.SYS is not loaded. Check the CONFIG. SYS file for a device=himem.sys command line.
Detecting RAMDRIVE...
There has been an error booting your computer. This boot disk was not able to create a RAMDRIVE. This is probably because you don't have 2 or more megabytes of extended momory.
Press any key to continue...

If i press a key i get:

Bad command or file name
Set COMSPEC=:/COMMAND.COM
Path not found- :/COMMAND.COM
SCANNING DRIVERS LABELS...
Path not found - :/SEEKDRVS.EXE

Data error reading drive A
Abort, retry,ignore, Fail?

Hello,

The drive needs to be formatted correctly first.
One large partition, FAT32, labelled HDD.
Use the command FORMAT C: /V: HDD

Reboot with CD1, then drop to DOS.(Press ESC at menu)
Enter Format C: /V: HDD (note the spaces) and enter.

should work ok any problem ask Rily@

hello,
it has been so long ago since i have done a Packard bell
but at C:
you need to type Q: and enter
that is the drive letter for Packard Bell CD /DVD drive
your C: drive has not got any thing on it .
but when it is finnished it will also have a driver folder which has tools
if at Q: promt you type
TS and press enter on keyboard
you get menu and choose DOS to get the tools.

alternativley

Download and create either a Recovery Floppy or CD..here... See if you get the same errors.

Ignore the computer model it's a general facility.
