Hi
I sent my Advent 1115c into the tech guys approx 2 months ago (cd drive faulty) it was returned with cd working but completely new fault, when it was returned the 2nd time the motherboard and memory had been replaced and as i did not have a recovery disc i could not boot it up so i phoned them and about 2 weeks later they then sent out a recovery disc for (windows vista basic) i had windows vista prem.
I phoned them again and they sent out another identical recovery disc for "basic" again about 2 weeks later, i phoned them again this was last week and today i recieved another identical disc for "basic" has anyone ever had any problems like this with "the tech guys" do you think they are trying to tell me something or purely just having a laugh at my expense.

I doubt whether it is personal. They probably just don't know the difference between Basic & Premium........... whistle.gif

Hello,

in theory an installation Retail Vista DVD has all the images on
and it is the product key which chooses which version is extracted from the Wim image

For boot.wim

1: WinPE
2: Setup

For Install.wim

1: Business
2: Home Basic
3: Home Premium
4: Ultimate
5: Basic N
6: Business N
7: Starter Edition

you canuse GUI tool Gimagex to get more information on install.wim on the DVD
http://www.autoitscript.com/gimagex/
it is a free down load.
to rip the files you need from a Vista disk Manually on command line with imagex from WAIK .
imagex /compress fast /check /boot /scroll /export E:\sources\boot.wim 2 C:\Pe\WinRE.wim

the above command would rip the winre from the boot.wim image for instance.
2 indicates that it is the second image on the boot.wim image
any way as i said this is theory I found that the restore CD only has on image one say premium.

if you do not enter any product key vista loads but you got to activate within 3 days.

I have not got Vista so I leave it to Vista experts to sort out
