ive started to get this message:

Directsouond output V.2.46 (D) error

Bad directsound driver.

error code 88780078

ive tryed reinstalling drivers and directX which hasnt worked, i do get sound after a reboot but then some time later it goes again, in a last ditch effort ive even tryed a system restore, but still no joy.

My guess is that it is actually a hardware problem rather than software. If it was software then I'd expect reinstallation to have sorted it. And I think that it is indicative that it works for a while after a reboot & then fails. Failing soundchip would be my guess.

thanks grasshopper, i was thinking it might be that, guess ill have to buy a sound card then.

i fixed it id just re-installed windows and i was on sp2 , put sp3 on and now its fine.

Illogical but that's life...............
