Hi. I recently dumped ten or so old HDDs that I had aquired over months/years. I had hit them all quite hard with a hammer before dumping. Our local tip is staffed by mostly East Europeans. My visit coincided with a collection of the dumped computer bits. I noticed that all my ex HDDs were being recovered from the skip with loving care. Am I being paranoid? or is there serious danger in dumping HDDs?

Well lets put it this way.
Before I dump a hard drive, I overwrite the disk with Eraser to wipe it.
I then physically dismantle it and mangle each individual platter.

That does sound a little suspect... although it could be that they're just carefully picking out bits that might still work? Hoping to sell them on, or whatever.

Thanks for replies. No one could have been in any doubt as to the condition of the HDs; that is why I thought it particularly significant. I think that in future I shall take a leaf out of the GH school of tip preparation.
Thanks again
