What is VoIP?
smile.gif

Nah, i know that one... (Voice over Internet Protocol)

No, is there a way of calling 'normal' phone numbers from a VOIP system without having to pay someone for the privelage? I'm guessing the answer is no because it means transferring traffic to a BT (or mobile operator) controlled system... but just thought i'd check.

Cheers.

Mark, you rotter, I was going to do me guide but the ACP ( Admin Control Panel ) on this has become a nightmare, I thought ten mins to set the thing up, 45 mins later I was sat here scratching me head. I wondered why Matt had been on here more, now I know sad.gif

In answer to your question, the answer is yes, you can dial into UK no's for free but as always it is a case of finding the provider that will do it. As far as I can tell http://www.babble.com does free calls biggrin.gif

VoIP has become popular largely because of the cost advantages to consumers over traditional telepone networks. Most Americans pay a flat monthly fee for local telephone calls and a per-minute charge for long-distance calls.

VoIP calls can be placed across the Internet. Most Internet connections are charged using a flat monthly fee structure.

Using the Internet connection for both data traffic and voice calls can allow consumers to get rid of one monthly payment. In addition, VoIP plans do not charge a per-minute fee for long distance.

For International calling, the monetary savings to the consumer from switching to VoIP technology can be enormous.

VoIP has become accepted abundantly because of the amount advantages to consumers over acceptable telepone networks. Most Americans pay a collapsed account fee for bounded blast calls and a per-minute allegation for long-distance calls.

VoIP calls can be placed beyond the Internet. Most Internet access are answerable application a collapsed account fee structure.
